From Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Defended and Covered December 18 As birds flying, so will the lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. (Isaiah 31:5) With hurrying wing the mother bird hastens up to the protection of her young. She wastes no time upon the road when coming to supply them with food or guard them from danger. Thus as on eagle's wings will the Lord come for the defense of His chosen; yea, He will ride upon the wings of the wind. With outspread wing the mother covers her little ones in the nest. She hides them away by interposing her own body. The hen yields her own warmth to her chicks and makes her wings a house, in which they dwell at home. Thus doth Jehovah Himself become the protection of His elect. He Himself is their refuge, their abode, their all. As birds flying and birds covering (for the word means both), so will the Lord be unto us: and this He will be repeatedly and successfully. We shall be defended and preserved from all evil: the Lord who likens Himself to birds will not be like them in their feebleness, for He is Jehovah of hosts. Let this be our comfort, that almighty love will be swift to succor and sure to cover. The wing of God is more quick and more tender than the wing of a bird, and we will put our trust under its shadow henceforth and forever. Practice What You Preach

Don’t worry that children never listen to you.  Worry that they that they are always watching you.

Robert Fulghum

Too many times we are overly concerned that our children are not listening to our “lectures” and rules.  We so often forget that they are constantly watching us to judge what they should and should not do or say.

This story is told of a family who had invited the pastor and his family for Sunday dinner.  The father looked fondly at his small daughter.  “Amy, he said in a quiet voice.  Why don’t you say the blessing tonight?”

As everyone bowed their heads, Amy looked up at her father with panic in her eyes.  “But Daddy, I don’t know what to say.”  “Honey,” her father attempted to put her at ease, “Just say what you heard your mother say.”  Suddenly her face lit up and she bowed her head. “O Lord,” she began in the sweetest voice she could muster. “Why in the world did I invite this old goat for dinner tonight?”

Lesson :  We should always walk the walk if we are going to talk the talk for our children.

Father, I pray tonight that as these precious children you have entrusted me with, I will always let uplifting and edifying words come out of mouth.  Let me walk the walk and talk the talk so these innocent lambs of yours can see you in me.  I don’t want to do anything to hinder or harm them in any way.  I want to be remembered as someone that taught them about your great love.

Amen.

Put Me in Coach

Well I guess you can see how I spent last night.  I didn’t mind though because they have been away from home 2 weeks.  It’s amazing how the darlins’ can get on my nerves but when they are gone how much more I miss them.  These are 2 of the reasons I must push on day by day.  Aren’t kids amazing?.  They are so innocent and forgiving.  If only we stay that way as grownups.  That is why Jesus said “unless you become like a little child you will not inherit the kingdom of God”  paraphrased but you get the meaning.

Well, I  will let you “chew” on that for now.  Until next time, this is life on the edge.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MOTHER

Enjoy the answers given by elementary school-age children to the following questions:

Why were mothers created?
She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

Is anything about your mom perfect?
Yes, it must be her children.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

Describe the world's greatest mom.
She'd always be smiling and keep her opinions to herself.

Why did your mom marry your dad?
My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
Moms work at work and work at home, and dads just have to work at  work.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
I'd make my mom smarter.  Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.

What did your mom needs to know about your dad before she married him?
She had to know his background.  Like is he a crook?  Does he get drunk on beer?  Does he make at least $800 a year?  Did he say no to drugs and yes to chores?

I found this on the Internet and think it expresses children's opinions of their moms very well.

Life Might Be Returning to Normal--puleese!

I hope my life is returning to normal after all the activity of the holidays.  The kids will return to school tomorrow and maybe I will at least to get a chance to breathe without hearing "Nanny, Nanny, Nannnnnnny!"

I have been so busy I have not had a chance to write much but hopefully now I can be more regular in my postings.

I hope everyone had a good holiday and the new year is what you expected or, as in my case, not as bad as it could have been.  God is so good even when I don't deserve it.

I have got to get the kids ready for bed so tomorrow can go as smoothly as possible with 4 sleepy kids to get up and shove out of the door.

I will be back tomorrow so everyone have a good evening and don't forget to thank God for his blessings for last year and the ones that are waiting for us in this new year.

Life is Crazy Here on the Edge

Well, you probably all know about my new car I got after my van "bit the dust". There was a glitch with the panel lights and indicators--gas, speed, etc. The dealer set me up an appointment to have it repaired. You would think that with an appointment you could go, get your business taken care of and leave. Right? Well, after 4 hours sitting in the customer lounge I am told that they have to order a part so they rented a car for me. So far, nothing drastic. I get the rental car and go home. I am just in time for football practice. I load the car with kids and whoever else wants to go. The car did fine and we made it to ball practice and back home. I know I am rambling but please bear with me. The next day I have to take my husband to his doctor which is 3 hours away. By the time we got there my back was a little stiff but nothing major. But by the time we got back home, I was bent over and my back was hurting so much I was almost in tears. If you know me you know that I am a wimp with pain. With an aching back, 4 hungry kids, homework to help get done, supper to cook, and a house that was neglected too long, I went off the deep end and started yelling (I'm ashamed to admit) at everyone that got in my way. I noticed my 4 year old looking at me with a puzzled look on her face. Finally with fear in her voice she blurted out, "Nanny, why do you look like the mean old troll under the bridge in that story about the 3 billy goats?" That brought me back to earth long enough to fix the kids something to eat, and hang on until bedtime.

I guess the kids taught me another lesson about life. No matter what shape you are in kids still need a mother to help them.

Until next time, this is how life is "on the edge."

The greatest game of all

This has been a chaotic week on the edge. One birthday party for a 6 year old took precedence over everything else last weekend. It was worth it though when I saw the excitement and joy radiating from his little face. There were numerous ball practices and ball games to attend and cheer for. But, personally, I find T-ball the most thrilling game to watch. The "players" are still young enough to enjoy playing for the game's sake and not for accolades or praise. My little "players" showed enough enthusiasm to play in the World Series. What fun to watch as they missed hitting the ball more times than they hit. God surely loves the children and when He said "You must become as little children" he meant lose the attitudes of adulthood.
Well, it is Monday again and the darlins' are back in school and I have a kid wrecked home to clean. So until next time---enjoy living life "on the edge".
