Brightening Our Path

We cannot hold a torch to light another person’s path without brightening our own.

Thought to be by Ben Sweetland

Every time we help another person through their trials and brighten someone else’s day, the light we shine always comes back to us.
Any good deed we do does not come back empty.  A good deed done to another with the right intention brings glory to God and blessings our way.  If we do good deeds with the intention of bringing glory to ourselves, we get the reward from other people’s praise.  I would rather have my reward in Heaven.  What about you?

Think about it.

This Is God’s Day

This is the day the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:24

I taught this verse to my grandchildren and we would recite it every morning as I drove them to school.  One morning after taking the kids to school I realized that no matter what happened today, this IS God’s day.  Whatever happens today, He sees.  He gave me this day to live for Him.  Even a “bad” day can be used for God’s glory.  It’s not always easy for me to see the positive things mixed in with the chaos of my days because I am so focused the negatives in my life.  On the days the kids are fighting and are totally unruly, and are making more messes in the house than I can clean, I admit, I do get frustrated and think “What’s the use of trying to clean this house?”  I have been know to mutter to myself.  I did read somewhere that “Trying to clean house while the children are small is like shoveling the sidewalk in a blizzard.” Obviously, I am not the only one with this problem.

When bedtime finally comes around and I am tucking the little darling's in bed, they throw their arms around my neck and hug me and say “I love you, Nanny.”  This somehow makes all the frustrations and headaches that take over my days dim.  I realize what a blessing from God these four children are in my life.  God has entrusted their care to me and I rely on Him to give me me strength and wisdom to “bring them up in the admonition of the Lord.”

in the middle of the day top day chaos, I seem to forget that the simple things in life are often my greatest blessings.  Many times I need to be reminded that God’s blessings can always be found even though they are sometimes disguised in the daily struggles of living.

When I look at my daily to do list I realize there are blessings beyond measure in each task I have listed.  for all the dirty dishes, although I never seem to keep them all clean at the same time, reminds me that we do have food to eat ;mountains of dirty clothes that, like the dishes, never seem to be done, makes me thankful that we have clothes to wear; the never-ending pile of bills remind me that we do have the money to pay them; putting gas in the car reminds me to be thankful that we do have transportation to take us where we need to be .  After ;looking at these tasks and the b;blessings I have daily, I am reminded of the kids.  They remind me to be thankful that God trusts me enough to place them in my life.
They keep me “grounded” whenever I feel that I am overworked and underappreciated.  I have learned to solely rely on Him to give me the strength and wisdom to teach them about His wonderful love and mercy.  I have learned to “be thankful in all my circumstances.”  I thank Him for each day.  Yes, this is the day the Lord has made.  I choose each morning to rejoice and be glad in it,

The Bible VS Cell Phones

Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we turned back to go get it we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?:

What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?

What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

what if we used it we traveled?

what if we used it in case of emergency?

This is something to make you go…hmmm..where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing.

Unlike our cell phone,m we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

Makes you stop and think “where are my priorities?  And no dropped calls!  When Jesus died for us, he was thinking of you!

Think about it.

First Christmas in Heaven

I found this and want to dedicate this to everyone that is missing someone this Christmas.  I can just see my son singing with the angels and know I will celebrate Christmas with him again one day.

I've had my first Christmas in heaven.

A glorious, wondrous day!

I stood with saints of the ages

Who found Christ, the Truth, and the Way.

I sang with the heavenly choir;

Just think! I, who so long to sing!

And oh! what celestial music

We brought to our Saviour and King!

We sang the glad songs of redemption,

How Jesus to Bethlehem came,

And how they had called His name Jesus,

That all might be saved through His name.

We sang once again with the angels,

The song that they sang that blest morn,

When shepherds first heard the glad story

That Jesus, the Saviour, was born.

o, dear one, I wish you had been here;

No Christmas on earth could compare

With all the rapture and glory

We witnessed in Heaven so fair.

You know how I always loved Christmas;

It seemed such a wonderful day,

With all of my loved ones around me.,

The children so happy and gay.

Yes, now I can see why I loved it,

and, oh, what a joy it will be,

When all of my loved ones are with me,

To share in the glories I see.

So, dear ones on earth, here’s my greeting;

Look up till the day dawn appears,

and oh, what a Christmas awaits us

Beyond all our partings and tears.

As The Purse Is Emptied

As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled.

Thought to be by Victor Hugo

How true this is is at this time of year.  We all love to see the joy and happiness on our loved ones’ faces as the presents are opened.  But let’s not forget to give the ones that are free to give:  our time, our love and our hearts.  There is still one present for all of to receive—the gift of eternal life given to us by the birth of God’s own son.

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends.  May you receive blessings in abundance.

Think about it.

If Jesus Came To Visit

This is another poem I found while I was going through my old poems I had written.  I think this is a good question to ask ourselves this time of year.  With all the hustle bustle of preparing for Christmas do we remember who we are celebrating?  What would you do if Jesus visited your home?  Think about it.

If Jesus came to visit

Would you make Him feel at home?

Would you gladly let Him see

Everything that you might own?

Or is there something

That you’d rather He not see

So you rush around and hide it

Under lock and key?

Would you bring out your Bible and

Wipe away the dust?

Would you treat Him as an intruder

Or someone you could trust?

Would you invite Him in to dinner

Or rush Him on His way?

What kind of host would you be

If Jesus came today?

Jesus and Santa Claus

386354_308814325805678_1107439062_n[1]

Jesus: Santa.

Santa: Yes?
Jesus: I'm sad.
Santa: Why are you sad? It's Christmas, right? It's your Birthday!
Jesus: Yeah. That's the point!
Santa: What do you mean?
Jesus: Because whenever it is Christmas the kids only wait in line for you and NOT for Me! They only celebrate Christmas because of you! Why Santa? why not JESUS!!!??
The purpose to celebrate Christmas is for JESUS and not for Santa.
Let’s Wish JESUS a Happy Birthday! HE died for us so that we will NOT lose eternal Heaven!

The Real Reason

The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”  John 1:14

Let us not become too busy during this wonderful season of the year to remember why we celebrate Christmas.  May God bless you and yours and bring you the very best.  Remember God loved us enough to send His son.  Let’s not forget His most precious gift to us.

Think about it.

Psalm of the Welfare State

The government is my shepherd

Therefore, I need not work.

It alloweth me to lay down on a goof job.

It leadeth me beside still factories.

And it destroys my initiative.

It leadeth into the path of a parasite for politics' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley

of laziness and deficit-spending.

I will fear no evil, for the government is with me.

It prepareth an economic Utopia for me,

by appropriating the earnings

Of my own grandchildren.

It filleth my head with false security;

my insufficiency runs over.,

Surely the government should care

for me all the days of life here on earth!!!

And I shall dwell in a fool’s paradise forever.

This is from the Los Angeles Medical Society Bulletin.

Makes sense doesn't it?  Think about it.

Brief

I found this devotional in my reading this morning and found it expresses my feelings exactly.

Each new life, now matter how brief, forever changes the world.

Unknown

Little smiling faces; brightly trusting  eyes and eager personalities, what is not to love with each new life?  The impact of a tiny life overflows the hearts of loved ones like nothing else in life.  Our collective hearts carry some of the sorrow for those who lost a little one.  Pulling together in times of distress strengthens the weary and makes way for hope.

My heart and prayers go out to to all families who have lost a child in school shootings or any other dreadful way.

LET’S TAKE THE “X” OUR OF “CHRISTMAS”

Let’s take the “x” out of “Christmas”.

and let’s put Christ in again.

The day’s the birthday of a King,

Not that of an unknown man.

The tinsel the glitter, the glamour,

The noise of the parties gay

Have all but obscured the re4ason

That we celebrate the day.

We surely would not write “X-ian”

For the Christians here on earth.

Then why do we write “X-mas”

For the day of the Savior's birth?

It’s an honor that really is due Him

O’er that to a common man,

So let’s take “X” out of “Christmas”

and let’s put Christ in again.

Helpless

During my morning inspirational reading, I came across this devotion that is an encouragement to me.  Amidst all the tragedies and heartache in the world today, I found this quote very comforting.

“We may be helpless to stop bad things from happening, but perhaps God leaves us signs and road maps to help us recover and reconnect, provided we know where to look.”

Jennifer Gardner Trulson—Author/Widow from 9/11

Tragedy touches us in the core of our being.  Shock sets in and numbness resides along with fear and sadness in the hearts of many.  Chaos looks as it if it may reign.  However, God waits to comfort those in mourning and walks beside or carries those in pain.  Nothing heals like love.  Look for His signs and road maps for recovery.

Truth and Love

When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won.  There have been tyrants, and murders, and for a long time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fail.  Think of it-always.

Broken Hearts

In my post yesterday, I stated that a country will be judged by how it treats its lowest.  I had no idea when I posted that quote, that a tragedy that would bring this country to its knees was happening.

What kind of person would feel the need to harm this country’s most defenseless citizens?  I am not placing judgment on that person-only God can do that.  I am only stating what I feel in the wake of this tragedy.  I can’t imagine how these parents feel.  They were sending their kids to the one place where these children should feel the safest—school.  My heart is breaking for these families and people of this town.

If you have children or grandchildren, hug them a little tighter and don’t be afraid to say “I love you”.  Continually pray for their safety whether they are at school or in the next room.  Let them know what they mean to you before it is too late.

Father, I ask that these families know of your love and mercy.  Hold them in your loving arms and comfort them.

Think about it.

Pouring Attention

A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.

Nelson Mandela

We should try to encourage the lowest of the the low.  Let the celebrities adore each other and themselves.  Instead the ones who are struggling through life should be lifted up and made to feel needed and loved—for the simple fact that they are needed and loved.  We all are.

Think about it.

CHANCE TO GROW

For you know that when your faith is tested your endurance has a chance to grow.  James 1:3 NLT.

We all go through trials and tests that will test our faith.  Sometimes we do not act on the faith that is in us   Yes, sometimes we fail to see the beauty that can come from that test.  But God knows our hearts and needs.  We just need to remember to get back up and look to Him in our times of need.  He is there and will always be.  I have heard it said that when life knocks you to your knees you are in the perfect position to pray.  Failure is not in falling down.  Failure is in staying down.

May these words be an encouragement in whatever comes our way today.

Until next time—this is Live on the Edge.

Life’s Most Urgent Question

Life’s most urgent question:  what are you doing for others?

Thought to be by Martin Luther King, Jr

As we enter this Christmas season we should be asking ourselves who can I help?  There are so many people fighting loneliness, financial problems, health issues and other problems.  The greatest gifts we can give is the gift of ourselves.  Think about it.

God’s Idea of Your True Worth

This goes along with my previous post.  God is wonderful isn’t He?561677_379129008843957_74158922_n[1]

CROWNED BY THE KING

“The world’s standard of beauty is based on our outward appearances.  This differs from God’s idea of true beauty.  In His eyes “I am beautiful,” “I am chosen”, and “I am created in His image.”

Recently I received a beautiful Crowned by the King necklace from CWA Review Team.  I was to wear this necklace and give it a special person and explain that in God’s eyes we are all beautiful because He chose us and we are crowned with His beauty.

Although I had plenty of opportunities to share the ministry, I gave the necklace to a very special person.  I gave it my 18 year old granddaughter.  I have had the privilege and honor of bringing her up for 18 years and consider her to be a blessing from God.  I have attempted to instill in her and her three siblings the meaning of being a child of the King.,

You might be wondering why I gave her the necklace and not someone else I ministered to through its message.  I gave it to her because she is preparing to leave for college and at this vulnerable age I want her to remember who she is and most importantly—whose she is.

I do plan to continue this ministry throughout the coming months and maybe you will receive one of these beautiful necklaces from me.  Just remember ladies, WE HAVE BEEN CROWNED BY THE KING HIMSELF AND HE THINKS YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

Wednesday’s Whining's

Don’t let today’s title mislead you.  I am not whining—I just want you to know  why I am not posting as regularly as normal.  LIFE is what happened.  Flat tires, husband in hospital and backed up  housework are the culprits.  But God has never left me so I survived.  My God is awesome,

Embrace the Morning

God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.  Genesis 1:31.

When we wake each morning God gives us a manifestation of His love for us—a new day!  But too often we do not even notice because we live our lives in overdrive

Today our lives are filled with so many obligations and demands other people place on us—our families, our careers, our friends and yes we even let our church make .  —the list goes on and on.  As ,mothers we are so busy caring for other people in our lives, we too often fail to slow down enough to take care of ourselves or see the beauty of each new day  We cook, clean, transport kids to and from various activities, just to name a few of our responsibilities.  Gold did not intend for us to live such frantic lives.  He yearns for an intimate relationship with us.

Beloved slow down and spend time with your Heavenly Father   today..  Embrace each new day He gives you.  Enjoy His artistic hand in the glow of the beautiful sunrise of each morning.  Savor the beautiful sunset He puts in the sky each night for our pleasure.  After all, He is our Father and He loves all His children.

This is the day the Lord has made.  I will rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalms 118::24

A Good Role Model

The question for the child is not “Do I want to be good?” but “Whom do I want to be like?”  Thought to be by Bruno Bettelheim.

Parents and grandparents today our children look up to sports stars and movie celebrities as role models..  Admittedly, some of these people are worthy role models but too often they are not.  It is time to teach our children what a real hero is like..  Let’s live our lives so more of our kids want to be like us.  The home is the first teacher so let’s take that responsibility seriously.

Thursday Thoughts

Well, it’s already Thursday.  Where did the week go.  I enjoyed my   Bible Study yesterday.  We are studying the book of Acts and what a wonderful book it is.  Yesterday we studied about the start of the church in Antioch.  It is amazing how these people overcame persecution and started the church.  I ask God to give us the courage these men displayed.  What do we do when we are ridiculed for our faith?  I want to be able to answer that question by saying, “I stand firm. “  This is easier said than done and I know I cannot do it in my own strength.,  God can and will give me the strength I need.  I know this and I rely on this every day.

Lord, I know I fail you so many times but I thank you that you have never failed me and will not give up on me.

Pursuit of Proverb 31 by Amy Bayliss

I have always stood in awe of the wonder woman found in Proverbs 31.  After reading Amy Bayliss’ book I feel better about myself. Amy writes not as one “better” than me but as a friend chatting over coffee.  She brings the bar down to our level as she explains her own journey.  I found the Proverbs 31 can be anyone of us who love God, husband and family and serves them with love.

I have become discouraged so many times when I tried to “be” this perfect woman.  After reading this book I am more comfortable in my skin,  I recommend this book to any woman that is frustrated and stressed by her life.

Good Morning

Well, friends the sun is shining and the kids caught the bus today.  No repeat of yesterday.  It is going to be a good day today because He made it and He made me.  Need I say more?

Getting ready to go my Wednesday morning Bible Study.  I am so thankful we have this freedom to openly study the Bible.  I pray for the people who have to secretly study the word of God.  I will chat with you more later but I just. wanted you to know how thankful I am for all of you and I pray for you daily.

Until next time this is life on the edge and God is in control.

Here I Go Again

Well friends, this day started out as a challenge.  I overslept and the kids missed the bus.  This is not bad in itself but all three were in bad moods and tempers flared.  Yes, I must admit mine too.  Amid all the punches were being thrown—I didn’t throw any but the kids did.  I would not lie to you.  My forte is yelling, “Hurry up, we’re late already!  Quit hitting your brother!, Leave your sister alone!  Finally all were in the car and started to school.  I still heard arguing (quiet arguing, if that is possible).

Already exhausted , I stumbled into my house to be greeted by –say it with me—silence!  Yes sweet nothing to listen to.  Then it came like thunder.  The still small voice of my Father.  “What happened to you this morning?  Why were you being angry with the kids when you were the one that overslept?  Guilt began to creep into my voice when I answered “I was stressed because I did not want them to be late for school.”

“My child, my child,”  you get stressed by such little things.  Do you not know that I love you?  Is the sun shining on you this morning?  Are not the color of leaves falling beautiful to you?  If you are alive and the children are healthy, can you not be thankful for that?”

“Yes, Father. I am grateful for each day you give me and I am thankful for the grandchildren you have entrusted into my care.”

This little exchange changed my whole outlook on the day and I began singing worship songs to Him.  His last remark did bring me back to earth.  He said,  “Child turn on the radio.  Singing is not the talent I gave you.”

This is the day the Lord has made.

Vanished by Barbara Ann Derksen

This is a very good thriller that kept me reading long after the light should have been turned off for the night.  Yes, I was sleep deprived  but I always am after a good book.  It proved to be a good read with some violence.  However, the violence was placed for effect and not just for the sake of violence.  The characters are real and their faith shines through amidst their struggles.

When their friends are kidnapped, Andréa Wilton and Brian Strait travel to Haiti in search for them.  There they experience voodoo,  murders, and even more missing people.  These friends put their own lives on the line as they search for their friends.  Andrea and Brian discover a lot about themselves and each other during their daring escapades and narrow escapes.

This is the first of this author’s work I have read but it will definitely not be my last.

I was given this book by CWA Review Crew for an open and honest review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 525 “Guide Concerning the use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Monday Meditations

Father, I want to thank you for giving me life.  I want to use my time on earth to glorify your name and encourage others.  I am thankful for eyes to see your wonderful creations and ears to hear the birds sing and your still small voice everyday.  I want to be an encourager to all I meet.  I want them to see you in me and want to know more about what I have.

I want to be a testimony to you without words.  I want them to see what joy you bring just by watching me.  Sometimes the most effective sermon is one without words.

Be with me today and give me wisdom and strength.

Aftermath: Growing in Grace Through Grief by Margaret McSweeney

When someone we love dies, we experience a myriad of feelings—anger, grief, and denial being a few of these feelings.  Margaret McSweeney helps us along this journey in this encouraging look at the various stages of grief.  She writes with candor and honesty about the rollercoaster. She shares her personal journey through her through her own grief at the death of her mother.

I found great comfort from the quote from C.S. Lewis about anger at God.  I lost my own son last May and I found myself angry at my son for leaving and at God for taking him..

This book should be a reference book for anyone going through grief or when the feeling of loss return after the “time” for grief is over.  Believe these emotions will return again and again.

Seek the Company and Wisdom of Other Brothers

Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

Ramblings From the Shower by Faye Bryant

I do my best singing in the shower but I don’t usually have deep or profound thoughts—until I am wet and find my shampoo missing again.  Oh, wait that’s “profane” thoughts.  UMMMMMM, back to the subject at hand.

Faye Bryant has profound thoughts she has had shared some of her  profound thoughts during the most basic ritual of hygiene.

With wit and wisdom Ms. Bryant openly shares her trials of melanoma, and a candid discussion of a painful divorce.  she could have easily given up on life but she found comfort in knowing that God was always with her.

I gleaned so many insights from this book it will remain in my reference section of my home library for years to come.

My Morning Prayer

Father God, I thank you this morning that I was able to see your beautiful world.  The tree leaves are changing and falling from the trees displaying your beauty.  My children were able to go to school and –yes, they did not fight this morning while waiting for the bus.  For this I am truly thankful.

I ask that you watch over my family today as they go and do what they have to do today.  Give me the strength and wisdom to do all the things you have planned for me.  Father, please be with the hurting and broken-hearted in our world.  Open their hearts and ears so they might hear of you and your wonderful love.

I know that you are with me and will never forsake me.  I take great comfort in knowing this.  Let every word out of mouth and every action be a living testimony of you.

Crossing Values by Carrie Dawes

For years Amber ran from past.  She refused to let anyone penetrate the shell she had built around her life. She kept her emotions inside and her heart locked to any dangers.

As winter approaches the Rockies, Amber decides to take a job in the office of a family owned logging business.  As she is exposed to this family, she begins to wonder if they are for real.  They seem to love and respect each other.. As she waits for their “true colors” to come through, she learns more about herself and the God they worshipped than she had ever known.

I found myself immersed in the book from page one.  I don’t usually like romance books but this is different.  This story is not only about romance but displays the actual values and character of each of the people in the story. I took away the message that God’s love and redemption will find us even when we try to run from him.

I received this book from the CWA Review Crew for an honest review.  The opinions expressed here are solely my own.  I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 525 “Guide Concerning the use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Prayer for Today

Father, please shower blessings on my family and friends.  Let my hands pick up someone who is down.  Let my feet willingly travel down the path you have for me.  Let my mouth speak only kind and encouraging words to all I might meet.  Open my heart to compassion for others who cannot see you in the day.  Let my life be an example of your love and mercy.  Grant me the wisdom and strength to make it through this day.

Father I pray for this great country.  Open the hearts of its people, Lord.  You are in control.  I know you will never leave us or forsake us.  I claim that promise now.

Life is Messy

Sometimes we all fall flat on our faces:  business downsize or fail, , relationships end, financial problems erupt, and serious illness brings us to our knees.  Best selling author, Cecil (Ceca) Murphy shows us these setbacks, major or minor, are not the end of the world.  Instead these “curveballs” give us options:  hide from life, run away from problems, dwell on the past or think about these challenges as opportunities to become better than we were.

Mr. Murphy shares his experiences and trials.  I found these revelations very interesting.   It is encouraging to know that he became a writer later I life.  He writes very candidly and honestly.  This book is a very inspirational and motivational read.

The lesson I took away from this book is everyone faces chaos and challenges.  It’s not whether we face them head-on but how we face them that determines our growth.

I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity Group in exchange for an honest review.  The contents of this review are solely my opinion

A New Day

Well, folks, America has spoken.  We have four more years with President Obama.  I do know that whoever is our president—God is still the king.  He is still in control.

Until next time.  I will continue to pray for this country and its president.

Morning Prayer

So far today, Lord, I’ve done okay.  I haven’t gossiped, haven’t lost my temper, been greedy, grumpy, selfish or mean.  I’m really glad about that.

But in a few minutes, Lord, I’m going to get out of bed, and from then on I’m going to need a lot of help.  Amen.

Election

This is the final weekend before the presidential election.  I am not campaigning for either candidate here.  All we, as Christians, can do is pray and vote our conscience.  God is in control and knows the outcome. I do urge you to vote.  This is a very important election that will have consequences for our children and their children.

Voting is a  responsibiloity and a privilege.  Exercise this with a prayerful attitude.

Sandy

We should always be willing to help each other in times of trials and troubles.  It is now time to pray for our friends that are in the path of Superstorm Sandy.  I genuinely offer my prayers on their behalf.  It is a wonderful thought that He will never leave us or forsake us.  Let’s take a few minutes and utter a prayer for everyone in need and whatever “storm” each one is facing today.

ARE WE GOOD ENOUGH?

I found this on the internet. It ensures us that God can use us no matter how imperfect or incompetent we might feel.

The next time you feel like GOD can't use you, just remember..

Noah was a drunk

Abraham was too old

Isaac was a daydreamer

Jacob was a liar

Leah was ugly

Joseph was abused

Moses had a stuttering problem

Gideon was afraid

Samson had long hair and was a womanizer

Jeremiah and Timothy were too young

David had an affair and was a murderer

Elijah was suicidal

Isaiah preached naked

Jonah ran from God

Naomi was a widow

Job went bankrupt

Peter denied Christ

The Disciples fell asleep while praying

Martha worried about everything

The Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once

Zaccheus was too small

Paul was too religious

Timothy had an ulcer..AND

Lazarus was dead!

And Don't forget

Jesus Helped them all!!!!

===========================================

Now! No more excuses! God can use you to your full potential. Besides you aren't the message, you are just the messenger. And one more thing... Share this with a friend or two. In the Circle of God's love, God's waiting to use your full potential.

Future of Our Great Nation

Tonight is the presidential debate.  As Americans we need to take part in the election process.  Even more, as Christians, we need to pray for this nation.  There is so much turmoil and fighting in this world, we need to look to God for protection.

I am not political rallying but as a Christian, I do bear a burden for our country and future.

I read somewhere that all it takes for evil to flourish, is for good people to say or do nothing.

Staying Young

The aging process has you firmly in its grasp if you never get the urge to throw a snowball.

Thought to be by Doug Larson

Since it is not snowball season yet, get out of aging’s grasp by getting out with your kids or grandkids and throw a football.  Even going for a walk will loosen the grasp of aging.  Remember growing up is optional but growing old is mandatory.

Happy Monday friends.

You’re Not God

Has God deserted Heaven,

And left it up to you,

To judge if this or that is right,

And what each one should do?

I think He’s still in business,

And knows when to wield the rod,

So when you’re judging others,

Just remember, you're not God.

We all fall into this trap sometimes and this can be a good reminder to us all.  I know I need it frequently.

Eleven Years Ago Today

Where were you on 9/11/01?  This is a question that will always come to mind when I think about that infamous day in history,  This one event affected every citizen of this great country and impacted lives from that moment on.

During that black period in our history, thousands of lives were lost.  However, it did show us what Americans are made of—compassion and love for our fellow men.  We pulled together and  built beauty from ashes.

Now eleven years later, we should think back on those dark days and remember how we all pulled together.  Today, we should be as united as we were then.

What were you doing eleven years ago today?  Let’s thank God that He is always here no matter who does not think He is.  Remember, He is in control.

Another Monday Morning

Well, friends, the week has officially started.  My morning started out with oversleeping.  This set a cycle of chaos and running to catch up.

With 3 elementary school kids to coax out of bed and all the resistance this entails, my oldest one woke up in a bad mood.  If you have more than one child to get ready for school, you know what I mean when I say this started the dominoes falling.  He began to “pick on” his brother and sister.  Well—this began a chain reaction of fighting and yes, pushing.  A few crackers were even thrown.  By the time the bus came by I was definitely ready for a respite.  This did not last long, however.  My phone began to ring.  My husband called from work to remind me to do the items on the list he left for me.

You know, A strike seems to be in order here.  If you pass my house and see a lone picketer out front, think nothing of it.  It will be me slowly slipping over “the edge”

HAPPY MONDAY EVERYONE.

Honor Your Grandparents

Today is Grandparents’ Day.  I am not fortunate enough to have any living grandparents.  But I do honor them through my prayers and thoughts.  If I can be half the grandmother to my grands and mine were to me I would consider my job as grand a success.

I want to say thank you to all grandparents out there and especially to the grandparents raising their grands, as I am.  This day to all of us is like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as well

Comment and let me know how you are spending today.  I am in prayer for all of you.

I pray today that God continues to give me strength to bring up these kids and leave e a godly legacy for them.

Self-Confidence

The man who has confidence in himself gains the confidence of others.

Thought to be by Colin  Powell

If we want others to believe in us and show confidence in our actions and decisions, we must have true confidence in our self.  If we do not believe in our own abilities how can we expect others to believe in us?

No Successful Liars

No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar,

Thought  to be by
Abraham Lincoln

Life would be so much simpler if we only had to remember one story—the truth,  We could save time and stress if we didn’t need to invent stories to cover the truth.

Thankfulness

All our discontents about what we want appear to me to spring from the want of thankfulness for what we have.

Thought to be by Daniel Defoe

Sometimes our blessings seems to pale in light of wanting more and more.  We never seem to be satisfied with what we do have. Instead we want more money, a bigger house, a better job.  True happiness will only come to us when we are thankful for what we do have.  When we stop to look and think about so many people that do not have even the necessary things like a home or food, we should be ashamed for wanting more and bigger things.  I’m not saying don’t strive to better yourself but show gratitude for what you do have.  Think about it.

Cheerfulness and Contentment

Cheerfulness and contentment are great beautifiers and are famous preservers of youthful looks.

Thought to be by Charles Dickens

The beauty industry is a lucrative business today.  We spend thousands of dollars trying to look younger and more beautiful.  Think of all the money we could save if we were just to be contented with our life and put on a cheerful countenance.  Think about it.

Ease Heartache

To ease one’s heartache is to forget one’s own.

Thought to be by Abraham Lincoln

Sometimes we are so depressed and overwhelmed by our heartaches and trials we cannot see anything else.  It’s as though we have “tunnel vision”.  If we want to be able to overcome our own troubles, lend a hand to someone else.  Sometimes all you need to do is to listen and cry with them.  We are put on this earth to help one another and this is one way we can help each other.  Think about it.

Where You Are

Yes, you are on purpose.  You are right where God wants you to be.

God has great plans for you.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.  “They are plans for good…to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

No matter what we are going through at the moment God knows.  Although we can’t understand.  It is a part of His plan for us.  We are in His sight and in His plan.  Keep the faith and know He knows the last chapter because He wrote it.  Be encouraged  that He will never leave you or forsake you.

Being Who You Are

It take courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.

e.e. cummings

It is easier to hide our true self from the world.  We fear criticism, ridicule or scorn.  It is so much simpler to put on a mask so we can hide our true inner beings from everyone we know.

Working Through Problems

Problems are only opportunities in work clothes.

Henry J. Kaiser.

How many times have we been overwhelmed with problems?  Many times we want to just give up and let the problems unarm us and render us helpless.  God said we would have problems and our lives would be difficult.  He never promised a smooth life as His followers.

We should lay our problems at His feet always but sometimes He will tell us to get to work.  When this is His message we should put on our work clothes and open our eyes to the opportunities that are in the midst of these problems.

Coals of Fire

With the tense atmosphere Christians are facing today we should all stand together.  I found this quote in one of my many books I am reading and felt it adequately expresses our country today.  I would like feedback on what you think about it.

Christians are like coals of fire—together, they glow; apart, they grow cold.  ODB July 2004.

God’s Gift

Never let the gifts of God become more important than the God who gives the gifts.

Tony Evans

Sometimes we make the blessings and gifts from God our god.We put our material possessions on a pedestal and worship our achievements and forget that God made it possible for us to enjoy them.  This is not only inanimate objects we sometimes worship but our family and friends too.   Anything that comes between us and our relationship with our Father can be considered an idol.  Our Father wants us to have nice things to enjoy in life but remember He is also a jealous God and does not us to put more emphasis on what He give us than on Him.

Remember, God is the giver of blessings—the blessings are not the giver of God,

Life is

Life is air conditioners breaking in a heat wave

Life is having expenses but no money to meet them.

Life is school starting and funds are low.

Life is a daily job to keep our heads above water.

Life is trusting that God will meet all our needs because he is our Father and loves us unconditionally.

So as each day’s struggles seem insurmountable and overwhelming….

Remember that Life is a gift from God and He is always with us.

God Will Always :Love Me

Some days I feel as though I am alone in this world.  I am down on myself because I feel I am worthless, hopeless, and unlovable.  I know these thoughts are put into my mind by the enemy who wants to destroy my relationship with my Heavenly Father.  One day I heard God’s loving voice speak to my heart.  “I love you child, you should know that.  Nothing will take that love away.  Nothing or nobody will come between us.  Just trust me.  I then went to a quiet place and opened my bible to the book of Romans.  Here I found confirmation of that love and was able to resist the enemy’s lies.  In Romans 8:39 I found what my heart needed to hear that day.

I know this.  Death, life, angels, rulers, things happening now, things that will happen, high things, low things; nothing else in all the world can come between us and God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:39 (WE)

School Daze

School will be starting here on Thursday.  I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about this momentous occasion.  I will be able to claim control of my house again but it seems like the school year just ended last week.  This summer has gone by waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too fast.

I hope everyone has had a good summer and built a lot of memories with families and friends.  My family has recorded new memories—some good and some bad.  But isn’t that what life is made of?

A little girl came home from school and said to her mother, “Mommy, today in school I was punished for something that I didn’t do.”

The mother exclaimed, “But that’s terrible! I’m going to have a talk with your teacher about this … by the way, what was it that you didn’t do?”

The little girl replied, “My homework.”

And Then I Had Kids

I began thinking about life without my (grand)kids the other day and realized that although my life has changed since they came to live with me I am glad they did. They keep my life from becoming boring.

My hair was always fixed
not a strand at a place.
I even had time to put
makeup on my face –
then I had kids.
I could clean my house
in about an hour
and still have time
for a long hot shower –
then I had kids.
I could spend all day shopping
without a single worry.
take time to browse around
and never had to hurry –
then I had kids.
Since the kids came along
my life would never be the same
some days I can even
remember my name –
but I love those kids.
Now my house is a mess
with toys and clutter.
Can't you clean up this mess??
I often hear dear hubby mutter-
but I love those kids.
Now my hair stand on end and
there's no time for showers
the kids fighting scream
sometimes for hours –
but I love those kids.
Come to think of it
my life has really changed
but you know I wouldn't trade it
for anything because
I love those kids

Tell Me About Your Mother

Enjoy the answers given by elementary school-age children to the following questions:

Why were mothers created?
She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

Is anything about your mom perfect?
Yes, it must be her children.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

Describe the world's greatest mom.
She'd always be smiling and keep her opinions to herself.

Why did your mom marry your dad?
My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

What's the difference between moms and dads?
Moms work at work and work at home, and dads just have to work at work.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.

What did your mom needs to know about your dad before she married him?
She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer? Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say no to drugs and yes to chores?

I found this on the Internet and think it expresses children's opinions of their moms very well.

The World is a Puzzle

There was a man who had a little boy that he loved very much. Every day after work the man would come home and play with the little boy. He would always spend all of his extra time playing with the little boy.

One night, while the man was at work, he realized that he had extra work to do for the evening, and that he would be able to play with the little boy. But, he wanted to be able to give the boy something to keep them busy. So, looking around his office he saw magazine with a large map of the world on the cover. He got an idea. He removed the map, and then patiently toward up into small pieces. Then he put all the pieces in his coat pocket,

When he got home, the little boy came running to him and was ready to play. The man explained that he had extra work to do and couldn't”t play just now, but he let the little boy to the dining room’, and taking out all the pieces of the map, he spread them on the table. He explained that it was a map of the world, and that by the time he could put it back together, his extra work would be finished, and I could both play. Surely this would keep the child busy for hours, he thought.
About half an hour later the boy came to the man and said,”Okay, it's finished. Can we play now?'” The man was surprised, saying " that's impossible. Let's go say." And sure enough, there was the picture the world, all put together, every piece in its place.

The man said," that's amazing! How did you do that?" The boy said," it was simple. On the back of the page was a picture of a man. When I put the man together the whole world fell in the place."’

Practice What You Preach

Don’t worry that children never listen to you.  Worry that they that they are always watching you.

Robert Fulghum

Too many times we are overly concerned that our children are not listening to our “lectures” and rules.  We so often forget that they are constantly watching us to judge what they should and should not do or say.

This story is told of a family who had invited the pastor and his family for Sunday dinner.  The father looked fondly at his small daughter.  “Amy, he said in a quiet voice.  Why don’t you say the blessing tonight?”

As everyone bowed their heads, Amy looked up at her father with panic in her eyes.  “But Daddy, I don’t know what to say.”  “Honey,” her father attempted to put her at ease, “Just say what you heard your mother say.”  Suddenly her face lit up and she bowed her head. “O Lord,” she began in the sweetest voice she could muster. “Why in the world did I invite this old goat for dinner tonight?”

Lesson :  We should always walk the walk if we are going to talk the talk for our children.

Father, I pray tonight that as these precious children you have entrusted me with, I will always let uplifting and edifying words come out of mouth.  Let me walk the walk and talk the talk so these innocent lambs of yours can see you in me.  I don’t want to do anything to hinder or harm them in any way.  I want to be remembered as someone that taught them about your great love.

Amen.

Golden Rules

If you open it, close it.

If you turn it on, turn it off.

If you unlock it, lock it up.

If you break it, admit it.

If you can’t fix it, call in someone who can.

If you borrow it, return it.

If you value it, take care of it.

If you make a mess, clean it up.

If you move it, put it back.

If it belongs to someone else and you want to use, get permission.

If you don’t know how to operate it, leave it alone.

If it’s none of your business, don’t ask questions.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If it will brighten someone’s day, say it.

If it will tarnish someone’s reputation, keep it to yourself.

Author Unknown

If we followed these rules, just think how much better our lives could be.  A lesson I know I need to learn is “think before I speak” or to put it another way—Remember I have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason.

Face Difficulties Positively

This parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer’s well. The farmer heard the mule praying or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together, told them what had happened, and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back, HE WOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP!

This he did, blow after blow. “Shake it off and step up…shake it off and step up…shake it off and step up!” He repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!

It wasn’t long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him actually helped him . . . all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

THAT’S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity.

Believe in Yourself

Author Unknown

There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren’t the way you had hoped they would be.

That’s when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are times when people disappoint you and let you down.

But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.

There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up to you to accept them.

Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of who you are.

So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to be.

Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that you know are meant to come true for you.

Keep Believing in Yourself I found this story on the internet but believe in its message. We have all got to believe in ourself in order to enjoy what life God has arranged and planned for us.

Eyes of Justice by Lis Wiehl

Wiehl has done it again. She has written another unforgettable book.  In her Eyes of Justice the Triple Threat Club faces their hardest situation yet.  One of their own is murdered and the remaining two members will stop at nothing to catch the murderer.

Their search takes them through adventures and dangers that will leave you on the edge of your seat and turning pages long after midnight.

Again we learn that true friendship is worth fighting for and a true friend will go the distance for each other.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good page turning suspenseful mystery.

I received this book from Thomas Nelson’s BookSneeze program in exchange for an honest review.  The opinions expressed in this review are sole mine.

God Where Are You?

D

My life changed forever on the morning of May 27, 2012.  That is the day I received the worst phone call any mother can ever receive.  “Doretta, Jason is dead.”  Those four words made my heart stop, my world stand still and spin out of control all at the same time.

I stumbled through the next few days in a haze oblivious to everyone and everything around me.  I just could not wrap my brain around the fact that my son is dead.  I stayed busy the next few days preparing for the memorial service.  I made it through the service but after the service I admit I fell apart.  I cried on a daily basis and felt the cold slap of reality.  My son is dead and I will never see him again this side of heaven.

I found my emotions my emotions ran the gamut from denial—this is a nightmare or a sick joke someone is playing on me.  This cannot be true.  After the denial abated, I found myself angry—at Jason for dying and at God for taking my son.  I kept ranting at God, “Why did you have to take my son away from his family?”

One sleepless night as I lay in bed crying and railing at God, I felt loving arms wrap around me and a gentle voice speak to my heart.  “My child, my child I am here for you.  All you have to do is talk to me and tell me your troubles.  Have you forgotten I gave my only son because I love you so much.”  I lay there for what seemed like hours just holding on to God and letting Him hold and comfort me.

The next morning I got my Bible and journal and sat down in my comfortable old rocking chair to have my daily quiet time with my Father.  I did look like a disheveled mess—my hair standing up and my eyes swollen from weeping.  I knew that my Father did not care what I looked like.  He just wanted to spend time together with me.

As I opened my Bible I asked God, “Okay what do you want me to learn today?”  I was led to the book of Psalm, a beautiful book about David-a man after God’s own heart.  I found myself reading Psalm 6.  Today this chapter took on a whole new meaning for me as I read this beautiful Psalm.  My eyes were opened when I came to verse 6.  Here David is crying out to God in anguish.  David’s emotions were raw and he was in such pain.  “I am worn out from groaning, all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.”

David’s heart is breaking and he is crying out to God.  He is letting his true and honest feelings flood out of his mouth.  He is not afraid to let his honest fears out and let his hones feelings be made known to God.

Then I knew we can be honest with God about our pain and suffering.  He welcomes our brokenness with open arms.  God knows us so well and loves us so much, He wants only the best for us, His children.  God wants us to come to Him in all our anguish because He will always be here for us.  His love is unconditional.

Hospital Hopping

Well friends, I have had a busy weekend.  My daughter and daughter in law were involved in a car accident on Tuesday .  Neither one of them thought they were injured except for being shaken up and sore.

Friday my daughter went to the ER to have her shoulder checked out.  She found out her shoulder was ok but she did have a brain bleed.  So she spent the night in the hospital.  After bringing her home Saturday afternoon, my daughter in law called wanting me to take her to the ER she had been sick all day.  She could not hold anything on her stomach and had a horrendous headache.  When I got her to the ER she passed out right in the waiting area.  She has a concussion plus she is diabetic and her blood sugar was much too high plus high blood pressure.  She is still in the hospital.

Now this is bad enough but this morning while I was visiting her I get a call from my mother.  She was having chest pains at church so she was coming to the hospital in an ambulance.  So I have spent all weekend in two hospitals.

Ok I can hear what you are thinking.  This is not a good idea for a fiction story.  Well, this is not fiction.  It actually happened.  Truth is stranger than fiction.  I have one last request from all my cyber friends.  Keep me in your prayers and send good thoughts my way.

I am exhausted so I am going to try to get some rest before I go hospital hopping again.

Good night all.  Now you should know why my blog is named life on the edge.  I feel as though I am sliding closer to the edge of sanity more and more every day.

Learn from Mistakes

Thomas Edison tried two thousand different materials in search of a filament for the light bulb. When none worked satisfactorily, his assistant complained, “All our work is in vain. We have learned nothing.”

Edison replied very confidently, “Oh, we have come a long way and we have learned a lot. We know that there are two thousand elements which we cannot use to make a good light bulb.”

If Thomas Edison had given up, where we be today?  We don’t learn as much from our successes as we do from our failures.  The only failure is the person who fails to get back up when he is not successful the first time.  If there is something you want to accomplish---don’t give up.  We learned to walk after falling down numerous times—life is the same way.  Fall then get back up.  Don’t let one failure define you.

The Gift of Encouragement–Author Unknown

I found this on the internet.  It is not original—although I wish it was.  I have been going through some bad days myself and I found this.  It is like God is speaking to me.  I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to all my family and friends.  It’s not that I don’t appreciate you all but sometimes life gets so crazy I forget what is really important in my life.

Lord, help me to remember each day that other people are on my side and willing to help.  I want to thank all of them now and most importantly I want to thank you for never leaving me.

An accountant who had worked for a business for many years who committed suicide. People wondered why he took his life. When examiners reviewed the company's financial records, not a single

cent was found to be missing. Everything was in perfect order. They couldn't find any reason until they found a note he had written. It said, "In 30 years I have never had one word of encouragement. I'm fed up!"

Everybody wants to be appreciated and encouraged. So let each of us be sure we take our gift of encouragement, strengthen it through lots of practice and use, and take it with us and use it generously everywhere we go. And especially use it much at home.

Even when Jesus healed the ten lepers and only one came back to thank him, he asked, "Where are the nine?"

Folks, encourage one another, say thank you, help a person, smile, give a hug, Listen with an attentive ear. Help put a smile on someone's face today. God Bless. :)

Eternal Investment

If you write upon paper, a careless hand may destroy it.

If you write upon parchment, the dust of the centuries may gather over it.

If you write upon marble, the moss may cover it and the elements may erase it.

If you grave your thoughts with a pen of iron upon the granite cliff, in the slow revolving years it shall wear away and when the earth melts, your writing will perish.

Write then, upon the heart of a youth.

There engrave your thoughts and they shall endure when the world shall pass away and the stars shall fall, and time shall be no more.

For the heart is immortal and your words written there shall live through eternity.

Help Me Follow the Right Road

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.  I do not see the road ahead of me.   I cannot know for certain where it will end.  Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.  But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.  And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.  I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.  And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it.  Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.  I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and will never leave me to face my perils alone.  Amen.

Fruits of the Spirit Friday—Patience

Teach us o Lord, the disciplines of patience for to wait is often harder than to work.

Peter Marshall

I am working very hard to develop patience.  It is the hardest discipline for me to master.  I want the dishes washed 20 minutes ago.  I want that new book now—never mind it will probably be on sale tomorrow.

I see people waiting patiently in line at the grocery store while I am fidgeting, and tapping my foot.  I can’t even wait for food to heat in the microwave so sometimes I am eating cold leftovers.

I think the root of this problem of mine comes from my desire to control.  I am trying to do my best and let God handle the rest.

Are you impatient?  What are ways you have developed to deal with this issue?

Open Mindedness

"Be open minded about everything in life, at risk of missing something vitally important.  Not everything is obvious nor has immediate explanation.”

If we do not keep our eyes open to the beauty of God and our ears attuned to the gentle whisper of God, we will miss out on many of life’s most precious blessings.

God bless you all from life on the edge.

Happy Birthday, Jason

happy birthday Jasonbirthday cake for Jason

Yesterday was Jason’s birthday.  He died 1 month before his 35 birthday.  We all miss him and wanted to celebrate his birth.  I know he saw it all from Heaven.  My 2 boys each had ballgames last night and my little redhead hit his first home run.  He told me that was because he knew Jason was watching him.  His uncle Jason loved playing little league ball when he was a kid.  I know he was cheering the kids on.

Well, this is all I can write today.  I just want to hope Jason enjoyed watching the kids blow out his candles.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY SON.

Well I guess you can see how I spent last night.  I didn’t mind though because they have been away from home 2 weeks.  It’s amazing how the darlins’ can get on my nerves but when they are gone how much more I miss them.  These are 2 of the reasons I must push on day by day.  Aren’t kids amazing?.  They are so innocent and forgiving.  If only we stay that way as grownups.  That is why Jesus said “unless you become like a little child you will not inherit the kingdom of God”  paraphrased but you get the meaning.

Well, I  will let you “chew” on that for now.  Until next time, this is life on the edge.

Life Has Been A Struggle

Well friends, my life is going in circles these days.  I cannot stop crying over the loss of my son.  Wednesday will be very hard because it is his 35 birthday.  My life will get on an even keel eventually but please bear with me until then.

Please leave a comment and let me know how you handled this grieving process.  I am a social worker and know the stages but wish there is some magical formula to use.  Wait, there is—God’s love and comfort.  I know it will take time.  I guess I hoping I’ll wake up one morning and the hurt is gone.

Please keep me in your prayers and let me know you understand.  I know I can talk openly to you.

Well, my tears are falling on my computer and I can hardly see what I am typing.

But I know that God is holding me up and He is in control,.

A Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.  O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.  Amen.

Friday Fruits of the Spirit—Peace

Today, I found something in a book I am reading that is helping  to give me peace in the midst of my trouble.  Tell me what you think about it.

There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, people we can’t live without but have to let go.

Author Unknown

Sometimes things do happen that we have no choice but to accept, somethings we do not want to know at all but this knowledge comes to us anyway.  There are people in our life that we think are going to be there forever but eventually we have to let them go.  We cannot hold them on this earth with us.

There are things we have to accept on faith.

What Do Others See In You?

Every day you are being stared at by your family.
Every day you are being stared at by you colleagues and peers.
Every day you are being stared at by your existing customers.
Every day you are being stared at by your potential customers.
Every day you are being stared at by your competitors.
Every day you are being stared at by the public.

You are being judged by what others see of you every day. This is a fact.  Are you living your life so the town gossips are at a loss for words?

Monday’s Musings

Well, here it is Monday morning again.  My little ones are spending this week with their dad.  When they get back home, my oldest will be leaving for a week at church camp.  It has been a busy summer but I would not have it any other way.  With camps and ball games my life is in constant motion.  Time goes on and before I know it these kiddies will be grown and off to college and homes of their own.

How are you spending this summer with your kids.  Are camps in the picture?  Sports?  What about vacations?

Just enjoy life with them while they are young.  Make memories that will last forever.

Until next time—this is life on the edge.

Father’s Day

I hope everyone remembered to honor Dad today.  For all of us that have fathers in heaven, this is a bittersweet day.  I remember all the good times with my own father and think about him often.  This year I know that Dad is holding my son’s hand and showing him all around heaven and introducing him to all of our relatives that are there.  I love you Daddy and Jason.  I will never forget either one of you.

Today’s Tidbit for Thought

God made today---He made you.  And it’s all good.

Think about that.

IF JESUS CAME TO VISIT

421368_187459958025399_518521550_n

I found this picture on Facebook and think it illustrates this poem very well.  I hope you agree.

If Jesus came to visit

Would you make Him feel at home:

Would you gladly let Him see

Everything that you might own?

Or is there something that you’d rather He not see,

So you rush and hide it

Under lock and key?

Would you bring out you bible and wipe away the dust?

Would you treat Him as an intruder

Or someone you could trust?

Would you invite Him in to dinner

Or rush Him on His way?

What kind of host would you be

If Jesus came today?

We Are Not Promised Tomorrow

I wrote this poem years ago when my own kids were young.  Two weeks ago when my son died—the words to this poem really gave me a special look at life and each day on this earth.  I encourage each and every one of you to take these words to heart and let the people in your life know how much they mean to you because our lives can be taken in an instant.

We are not promised tomorrow

or whatever it might bring.

We are only promised this moment

Yes, time is a fleeting thing.

Live your life for the present

Don’t waste your time in regret.

Do the best you can every moment

And thank God for every breath.

One day at a time is the way

We all should learn how to live.

Don’t harbor any grudges

Be quick and just to forgive.

For God gave His only son, Jesus

To pay the price for our sins..

No, we are not promised tomorrow

Time is a precious gift to man.

Broken Hearted

I am going through the hardest time imaginable.  I lost my son Sunday.  He was 34 years old but he was still my baby.  We need all your prayers now.  I know you are my friends and I love each and every one of you.  I ask for nothing but your prayers at this time in my life.  God is in control.

Dear God

This actually happened. Usually I would go ballistic when something like this happens. I think God was guiding me and guarding the children that day. lol.

Dear God,

Do you have a minute or two?

I've had a really bad day

And need to talk to you.

After searching in five different stores

For a left handed t-ball glove

(What a grandparent won't do for love?)

I brought it home so the kids could play.

But I should have known from the start of my day

An accident was bound to happen

When two of the kids grabbed a bat and ran to play.

With the sound of breaking glass and a cry of surprise

I ran to the kitchen and couldn't believe my eyes--

My oven door was in a million pieces,

My face, I could feel, began to make creases.

I asked who had done such a dreadful thing.

Words of accusation the kids then began to fling.

"I didn't do it," the kids all cried and

I knew it would be a problem to hear the true side.

Then fingers began to point to each other in turn,

It became ever more difficult for me the truth to learn.

I calmly and quietly asked again

"Who swung the bat and caved the oven door in?"

From eyes tears then began to fall and

I finally began to learn it all.

"I didn't do it" had done such a deed.

But guilt on three faces gave me what I did need.

So with broom and dustpan I cleaned the mess

Then went to my room for a much needed rest.

Well, I guess this "small" inconvenience was worth it because the little "red head" plays t-ball now on a team. He is really enjoying the game and learning so much about teamwork and skills necessary to help him grow up and know what teamwork is all about.

Prayer for Today

Dear Father,

Help me make it through the day.  Help me to see that what problems may come my way are not stumbling blocks but are stepping stones to bring me closer to you.

Love

Your daughter.

TOUCHED BY THE MASTER’S HAND

The poor beggar sat at the rich man’s gate
Begging for crumbs that he might eat.
But the rich man showed no mercy
And had him thrown out into the street.
The blind man stared with unseeing eyes
As the people passed him by.
He knew that God had a purpose for him
So he did not question why,
But now the beggar can sit down to feast
And he blind man—he can see.
For they have been touched by the Master’s hand
And from pain they have been set free.
Once I like the beggar hungered
And like the blind man I could not see.
But the Master reached down His loving hand
And saved a poor sinner like me.

THE LORD AND I

One day I felt so overwhelmed with work and worry. I could not quiet my mind and relax, so I began to call out to God to help me. This is the prayer I prayed:
Lord, when my life seems to be spinning out of control, help me to stop and smell the roses. Help me to savor each moment and not rush them on my way to another time or place. Help me to take the time to see—really see—what all you have blessed me with and truly feel your love in my heart. Help me to be still and hear your small still voice.
When I paused and asked Him for help here is what He said to me:
“My child, I love you and want to enjoy your company. Just come and sit with me and tell me about your day. I am here for you. All you need to do is slow down and enjoy being with me. There is nothing you do that does not interest me. Remember, you are my child and I am your father. I love you. Come to me and rest.”
After praying this prayer, I shut off my computer, went into my living room and just sat there. I felt the peace of His love as He encircled me in His loving arms. My worries left and we just sat there with our arms around each other—the Lord and I,

THE BIBLE VS CELL PHONES

bible1
Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several time a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to Kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my Bible?
Oh, and one more thing.
Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think 'where are my priorities' ? And no dropped calls!
When Jesus died for us, he was thinking of you!

My Dream

jesus on cross2
Since Easter is around the corner, I thought I would share a poem I wrote years ago.  This poem is a reminder that although Jesus was crucified on the cross, He lives today and paid the ultimate price.
One night I had a dream
That seemed so real to me.
I saw my Lord and Savior
On top of Mount Calvary.

A crown of thorns was on His head
Nails pierced His side.
The soldiers laughed and mocked Him\
Until my Savior died.

The drops of sweat became as blood\
Running down His face.
I stood there feeling so helpless
As Jesus died in my place.

When I awoke, my face was wet
From the tears that I had cried.
But He gave me eternal life
The day my Savior died.

The Great Possum Caper

possum-pictures-510x380
One day my husband fixed a leak under the commode in my bathroom.  Being the handy man he is, he cut a small hole in the floor to make it easier to reach the pipe.  Fine--no problem--leak fixed.  Now he will fix the hole and life goes on-right?  Wrong!  He decided to leave the hole for a few days to make sure the leak has been permanently fixed.  Now that few days has turned into months.  Although it is a small hole, I have tried my best to conceal it but there is just so much I can do to make a hole in the floor attractive...
Now fast forward about six months.  The hole is still there even though I have done all I can to conceal/decorate it.  But it is still there.
One night I stumble into bed exhausted after transporting four kids to four different activities as well as the usual daily struggles of running a household with four kids.  Around 2:00 in the morning my little dog woke me up with frantic barking and yelping.  I forced one eye open to see him jumping up and down on the floor by my bed.  He looked at me as if to say, "I'm trying to protect you, now come on and do your part."  When I did manage to stumble into the bathroom I was instantly awake.  There between the commode and the waste can was a possum.  Pugsley, my dog had him trapped.  I could not move because I was totally in shock until Pugsley barked again as if to say,"See I told you.  Now get rid of it.  I'm tired and want to go to sleep."
Frantically, I woke my husband and screamed, "THERE'S A POSSUM IN MY BATHROOM!  GET UP AND KILL IT!"  He looked at me as though he thought I had totally lost my mind.
"Ok, get me something to use to kill it," he calmly said.  I ran to my grandson's room and came back with a ball bat.  I gave the bat to hubby and jumped on my bed and covered my eyes.  I could hear the battle raging on in the bathroom. "Hiss!"  "Pow!" "Ka Pow!" "Boom!"  Finally all was silent so I opened my eyes.  There on the floor lay the lifeless body of the intruder.  I carefully picked it up by the tail and placed it into a plastic bag and ran to throw it into the outside garbage can.
I was finally able to fall back to sleep but the bathroom light was left on for the rest of the night.
I bet you thought this was the end of the story.  WRONG!  While going about my daily chores the next morning, my grandkids came running to me with excitement written all over their faces.  "Nanny, Nanny, Nanny (all three were talking at once).  There is a possum in our garbage can and he is alive!" I went out to see what was happening and sure enough when I raised the lid of the can, I could see two beady little eyes staring up at me.   I don't know what eventually happened to this wayward creature.  The kids think he escaped and is now living happily ever after with his family.  I hope so.  But at least he is not living his life with my family.
The next morning when I sat down for my morning visit with God, I asked Him, as I always do "What do you want to talk about today Father?"  His answer came as a total surprise to me.  "I want to talk about the possum."
"What about the possum?" I asked in astonishment.
"That was a small hole in your floor wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was a very small hole." I answered, not sure where this conversation was going but definitely intrigued by it.
"Well that possum was able to come into your house through that small hole, wasn't he?"
"Yeah," I slowly answered.
"Just like that possum squeezing though such a small opening in your floor that was unguarded, the enemy can enter your heart through a small unguarded hole in your heart.  Just as that intruding animal filled you with dread, the enemy can fill your heart with fears and worries.  When he does that you do not fully trust me to care for you."
Suddenly, I understood what He was telling me.  We must always guard our hearts against the enemy that roams around trying to find who he can devour.  Satan doesn't need a door with a welcome sign, he enters through a hole he finds unguarded.  Don't make it easy for him to enter your heart.  Fill your heart with joy and love and trust in a heavenly Father who loves you unconditionally and will never leave you unprotected.
Oh, by the way--the hole in my floor has been fixed!
TODAY’S WHISPER:
Have you left your heart unguarded? What fears and doubts entered through that hole? Write out a prayer to God confessing the fears you had and ask him to come into that hole left by doubt. Just as the enemy can enter our heart God can close that hole with His peace and joy.
TODAY’S PRAYER:
Loving Father, help me to be ever vigilant to guard my heart against the enemy’s attacks. Only you can fill my heart with the peace and joy I crave. Make me ever mindful of your love and care for me. I surrender my heart and soul to you. I know you will never leave me or forsake me. I covet your presence in my life today and forever. Amen.
